  Heather Brazell-Hill is a Southeastern Ohio leader who has had many accomplishments. She is the first person of color to be elected in Morgan County. Ms. Brazell-Hill holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and business from Ohio University and a deaf studies and American Sign Language certificate from Columbus State Community College. She became a small business owner in 2001. Ms. Brazell-Hill served on the Morgan Local school board and was appointed by her fellow board members to the position of vice-president. She would later be appointed as president of the Morgan Local Board of Education. Ms. Brazell-Hill served as the secretary for the Black Caucus of Ohio School Board Association and has been actively involved in her community. She was a founding member of the Morgan Co. Habitat for Humanity and served as the Family Support President. She was nominated by State Senator, Stewart, for induction into the Ohio Civil Rights Hall of Fame and was awarded the Muskingum Co. MLK Honor Award. Ms. Brazell-Hill teamed up with the MLK Foundation where she formed a local branch of the MLK Scholarship Fund. Ms. Brazell-Hill joined forces with many republicans such as, past Governor John Kasich and Arnold Schwarzenegger during the Kasich presidential campaign. Ms. Brazell-Hill has always had a deep love for children and is a visionary in suicide prevention, ways to improve our foster care system and improving education; not only at a local level but in 3rd world countries, such as Honduras. Ms. Brazell-Hill values family and it shows through with her own. She is a loving wife to Darrin Hill, of 30 years. Together they have 3 children; Darrian (US Army and Ohio U.), Dahlia (Ohio U.) and Jarrell (Capital U). Over the last 15 years the Hill family have welcomed many foster children into their home. Mr. and Mrs. Hill have helped foster children to see the value in themselves and to value education. Ms. Brazell-Hill has remained a support system for Ohio’s foster children. She has remained a constant when it comes to her love for children and the importance of education, service and volunteerism.

 

Governor Mike DeWine appointed Heather Brazell-Hill, of Malta / Morgan County Ohio, to serve on The Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission (Sept. 2023), and the Frederick Douglass Foundation appointed Mrs. Brazell-Hill to serve as the ambassador for Athens, Morgan, Muskingum, Perry and Washington Counties (Dec. 2023).

Heather Brazell-Hill holds a bachelors degree in marketing and business from Ohio University. Mrs. Brazell-Hill is a past Morgan Local school board member & owner of several Ohio businesses, Such as: Atlantis Pools, Spas, & Tanning, Ohio Hunting Lodge, Brazell-Hill Enterprises llc, Valley Gem Barber Shop, & ER Graphics.  

 

In 2004 she was elected to the Morgan Local Board of Education. Heather Brazell-Hill was appointed by her fellow Morgan Local board members to the position of board vice-president in 2006. Mrs. Brazell-Hill was promoted to president of the Morgan Local Board of Education in 2007. In 2006 Mrs. Brazell-Hill served as the secretary for the Black Caucus of the Ohio School Board Association.  

 

In 2004 she was a founding member of the Morgan County Habitat for Humanity & served on the board from 2004 - 2006. Mrs. Brazell-Hill was also the Morgan County Habitat for Humanity, Family Support President serving 2005-2006. In 2005 Heather Brazell-Hill was awarded the Muskingum Co. Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast Honor. In 2011 & 2012 Mrs. Brazell-Hill was nominated by State Senator Jimmy Stewart for induction into the Ohio Civil Rights Hall of Fame.  

 

She then teamed up with the Muskingum County Martin Luther King Scholarship Foundation where she later formed a branch of the Morgan County Martin Luther King Scholarship Foundation. She offered scholarships to Morgan Local High School Students of color, to help them reach their college goals. She served as the President for the Morgan County Martin Luther King Scholarship Foundation from 2005 - 2013.  

 

In 2014 Mrs. Brazell-Hill began to focus her attention on improving education in 3rd world countries, such as Mexico and Honduras, and improving the foster care system in Ohio. She & her husband, Darrin, welcomed children into their home as well as working with caseworkers & case managers to bridge the gap between foster families & the fostering agencies.  

 

In 2015 Mrs. Brazell-Hill joined up with Kathleen Young, Ohio Liaison from Governor John R. Kasich's office to help serve the needs of Southeastern Ohio Business owners.   In 2016 Heather Brazell-Hill joined forces with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Governor John Kasich to endorse the Kasich presidential campaign. Mrs. Brazell-Hill has served as a republican political advisor serving two Ohio Governors.

Black History Month - Heather Brazell Hill is making waves in her community and the republican party.

Ohio — Governor Mike DeWine has appointed Heather Brazell-Hill, of Malta / Morgan County Ohio, to serve on The Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission and with the recommendation from Ronald Todd, from Governor DeWine’s office, the Frederick Douglass Foundation has appointed Ms. Brazell-Hill to serve as the ambassador for Athens, Morgan, Muskingum, Perry and Washington Counties. Her extensive background includes notable achievements and a deep-seated commitment to community development. Ms. Brazell Hill's influence extends across various sectors.


As the first person of color elected in Morgan County, Ms. Brazell Hill's trailblazing career is marked by her roles in education, public service, and community activism. She holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and business from Ohio University, along with a certificate in deaf studies and American Sign Language from Columbus State Community College. Since becoming a small business owner in 2001, she has served on the Morgan Local school board, including positions as vice-president and president, and actively engaged in the Black Caucus of Ohio School Board Members.

Ms. Brazell Hill's dedication to service is further highlighted by her work with the Morgan Co. Habitat for Humanity, the MLK Scholarship Fund, and her support for various educational and social initiatives, both locally and internationally. She has been recognized for her contributions with a nomination for induction into the Ohio Civil Rights Hall of Fame and receiving the Muskingum Co. MLK Honor Award.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Ms. Brazell Hill is a devoted family person, celebrating over 30 years of marriage to Darrin Hill and raising three children along with numerous foster children. Her commitment to youth development, education, and service is evident in her continuous support for Ohio’s foster children and her advocacy for suicide prevention and educational improvement.

The Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission is a statewide advocate of Dr. King's principles of nonviolence.
